When we think of ways to improve our physical health, we think of eating right, exercising, getting enough rest, drinking adequate water, etc. However, the one thing often overlooked when it comes to our overall health is our mindset and the degree to how happy we are. Being healthy can make a person happy but happiness itself may lead to better health. According to a study, as referenced in this article, unhappy people are 80% more likely to develop impairments in daily functions. So in that case, recognizing the importance of having a positive mindset and being happy is just as important as having healthy lifestyle habits.
So if we want to be truly healthy, we need to make sure that we are happy. For some of us, that is a very big challenge.
How do we get happy when perhaps life is not going our way?
What do we do when we feel an underlying sadness on a regular basis? And when we do feel happy, how can we stay in that feeling?
Having ups and downs emotionally is absolutely normal and natural. However, for those people who feel unhappy more often that not, or for those people who tend to have more of a negative mindset, here are a few tips to get and stay happy.
1. Smile more often!
Did you ever hear the expression; “Let your smile be your umbrella?” Make it a point to smile more. Even if you are not feeling happy, sometimes just the action of smiling can put you in a better mood.
2. Reach out and help someone else.
When we support and lift others, this will bring us more joy than when we focus on our own contentment. If you ever feel down, find something nice that you can do for another person; even a stranger. This is a great way to feel more happiness.
3. Focus on gratitude.
What are you grateful for? You will often hear me talk about gratitude and how it raises our vibration and puts us in a better frame of mind and a more uplifted state. Whenever I feel down, I focus on what I’m grateful for. I focus on the appreciation I have for the people in my life, the air that I breathe, the water that I drink, etc.
Gratitude is the best attitude for many reasons but in particular here, to help us to become happier and therefore, healthier!
So get out there, smile, make a difference in someone else’s life and remember everything you’re grateful for! Be Happy.
