As we finish up 2016, many of us reflect on the highlights of the year. Major life events and accomplishments are often what we look back on and think about as we scroll through the year in our mind. As we move into the New Year, we tend to think about what we want to accomplish this coming year.
What are your goals? Do you want to lose weight or improve your health? Are you thinking about running a marathon or entering some other physical or athletic challenge? What about your business goals? Do you have targets for yourself that you are aiming for? Financial goals? What about your relationships?
Perhaps your intention is to be more present with your loved ones. Or maybe this is the year that you will meet your perfect mate.
As a health professional and being extremely health conscious myself, my typical resolutions tend to revolve around improving some daily health habits; ie. Drinking more water, being more organized with meal planning for my family and cutting back on my weekend red wine consumption.
If you’re like most people, you like the idea of a fresh new start and find that the beginning of the new year is the perfect time to make positive changes to improve your life.
However, all too often, within a short amount of time, many people have given up or forgotten about their resolution and then in no time at all, it’s the end of the next year and the same resolutions are there because they were never completely accomplished.
I would like to give you 3 easy ways to once and for all, CRUSH your resolutions!
1. Set yourself up to win by setting 1 realistic resolution.
Perhaps one simple habit that you know would make a difference for you is going to be easier and more doable for you than to set yourself up to be overwhelmed with unrealistic targets and/or too many changes at once.
2. Have a game plan in place to achieve your goal.
For example, if you want to lose 20 lbs but you don’t have a solid plan in place then you are most likely setting yourself up to fail.
3. Make sure to have support and accountability.
Whether it’s a friend that is going to hold you accountable and be there for you when the going gets tough OR an actual group or team that can support you on your journey, support and accountability are often the missing links and make it so much easier and more fun to achieve what your heart desires.
Wishing you success with your upcoming resolutions and the best of everything for 2017!
With gratitude and love,
Dr. Ina
